Opportunities in the Mellone lab:

Interested in joining us? Please read our lab's core values.

Postdoctoral fellow
: We are looking for a motivated recent PhD graduate with background and interests in molecular biology, genetics, chromatin or genomics to study centromere specification using cell biological, genetic, and genomic approaches. Fly genetic experience is a plus, but not necessary.
Please contact Barbara Mellone.

Graduate students: We are currently accepting M.S. and Ph.D. candidates through the Molecular and Cell Biology program. Interested first year students should contact Barbara Mellone to discuss rotation projects.

Undergraduate research opportunities:
-Due to the changes in laboratory practices implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Mellone lab is not taking on any new undergraduate trainees for the time being. Please check back here for an application link when undergraduate laboratory training resumes!
-We participate in the Beckman Program, a competitive research opportunity that supports undergraduate students with a stipend for one academic year and two summers, plus a trip to the Beckman Scholar Conference. Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and some research experience. If interested in this opportunity, contact professor Barbara Mellone.

We share a collaborative open lab space with several other groups:

Core Lab transcriptional regulation in health and disease
Campellone Lab cytoskeleton and membrane dynamics
R. O'Neill Lab genome evolution
M. O'Neill Lab genetic imprinting
Nelson Lab gene regulatory networks
Wegrzyn Lab plant genomics and bioinformatics
Center for Genome Innovation Sequencing and bioinformatics center
